We’ve Been Under Construction
Bucket dredge barge working on the Culebra Cut, 1910. You may have noticed the PCMC Blog has been silent for the past couple months. During that time, we’ve been under construction getting a new look. The blog’s new layout allows for easy navigation and searching and is more mobile-friendly than the previous version. All blog posts and comments from the previous version have been transferred over. Commenting on posts is just as easy as before – simply type your name, email, and comment and click “post comment.” The blog’s URL has changed from ufpcmcollection.wordpress.com to pcmc.domains.uflib.ufl.edu. 2020 Spring Luncheon and Exhibition
The annual Spring luncheon and joint meeting of the Friends of the Panama Canal Museum Collection and the Panama Canal Society will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020, in the Smathers Library Building on the University of Florida campus. A Well-Used Collection
This semester, three courses at the University of Florida are utilizing the Panama Canal Museum Collection in their curricula, exposing both graduate and undergraduate students to various portions of Canal Zone history. Professor Lourdes Santamaría-Wheeler is teaching an exhibits course in the Museum Studies department in which graduate students work in small groups to produce museum exhibits. One of the groups has been assigned to curate an upcoming exhibit for the Albert H. Nahmad Panama Canal Gallery. Updates and Introductions: Lynea Wilson
Hello! My name is Lynea Wilson and this is my first semester working with the Panama Canal Museum Collection. I am currently helping to prepare the upcoming exhibition all about food in the Zone. This topic is closely related to my thesis research into the use of food in museum education. I’ve spent the last week looking through Zonian cook books, yearbooks, and oral histories and am so interested to learn more about this subject- Johnny Mazetti in particular! I’m looking forward to learning more from this collection and all of you.

Cookbook of Panama Canal Zone Cuisine Wins Award
Opening the Gates to Canal Cuisine, a cookbook created by the Panama Canal Museum with the help of many volunteers and published with the Library Press @ UF and the George A. Smathers Libraries, was recently announced as the winner selected to represent Panama in the American category of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. As a finalist, the cookbook is a contender for the “Best in the World” award, which will be given at the Gourmand Awards on May 25-28, 2018 in Yantai, China. I have been working with the Panama Canal Museum Collection since August 2016, and curated the Between Two Oceans exhibit with assistance from Jessica Marcetti and Lourdes Santamaría-Wheeler in the Albert H.
