Behind the Scenes: A Day at the PCMC
On any given weekday, work is being done at the PCMC to ensure the collection is well organized, well housed, and easily navigable. Here is a taste of a typical day at the PCMC:
Betsy is pictured going through archival documents, organizing them by theme and material. Documents, pamphlets, letters, and more are stored in the gray archival boxes temporarily lining the room.
Georgia and Marygrace pose with their favorite artifacts in an additional storage room. Their current project is to organize PCMC artifacts by theme and material and catalogue their locations in a spreadsheet for easy accessibility.
Finally, I (Summer) am currently cataloguing stamps we have in the collection into a spreadsheet to get total inventory numbers for each Canal Zone stamp.

I had the pleasure of meeting some of you at the PCM Luncheon in March! You girls are doing an awesome job with our “artifacts”. Thank you so much!

A lot us old Zonians probably still have a variety of things that need to be donated to specialty libraries. Could you provide addresses for donating various items such as books from the canal construction days, clay pots, wooden bateas or Panama Canal publications? Do keep up the good work.

Great work is being done at the Panama Museum in Florida. I’m happy to see this. It will be worth a lot in the years to come with the younger generation learning why the Panama Canal was a gift to the World by the Americans. To learn which is so important to me being a Zonian is how well Zonians maintained it for the United States. Great job you are doing in Florida,
and would love to come to thank you all in person someday!!!!!!

My dad worked 35 years in the canal zone postal service and I have dozens of first day of issue stamps from fifties sixties and seventies that he always got. They are all in perfect condition. I grew up there and left 1976. Was there from one year old in 1945. Bill Snyder 147 Ruby Creek rd, Naples, Idaho 83847. Phone 208 267 5288
