From the Stacks: Jacqueline Cochran
On this day in 1954, pilot Jacqueline Cochran visited the Canal Zone. Just over a year prior, she became the first woman to break the sound barrier. She is pictured here visiting the Miraflores Locks, accompanied by Betty Parker, wife of Lt. Col. David S. Parker, Military Assistant to the Governor, and Edward M. Barlow, Senior Control Tower Operator.
Do you have any information about Jacqueline Cochran’s visit or the two people accompanying her?
