I spy a couple who is not afraid of heights! Nearly 110 years ago, a man and woman viewed the construction of the Panama Canal from a “tree on Balboa Mountain.”

Did sightseeing structures like this one remain after the construction period ended? Do you know anything about this location?

The only Mountain I can remember in Balboa is Cecel Hill.I can’t remember how to spell it.

Could be Silsa Hill. It was supposed to be manmade from the digging from the canal

I believe there as such a tree on the West Bank at Culebra Cut. I know I have seen such a photo When the ICC towns were evacuated & torn down I’m pretty sure that such things as a ladder up a tree were taken down too. Bob Karrer

Cerro Balboa is actually about 2 miles behind Gorgona Island (former construction day town Gorgona) on the West side of the Canal. It is called Cerro Balboa because the story goes that the explore Balboa could see both Atlantic and Pacific Oceans from the top. From this vantage, the dream of an ocean to ocean canal was born.
You can see Cerro Balboa in the two photos on my website at : http://czimages.com/CZMemories/Photos/photoof255.htm
