Updates and Introductions: Summer Bias
Hello, all! My name is Summer Bias and I am new to the PCMC team. I am a second-year Museum Studies graduate student concentrating on History here at UF.
This semester I am working on blog posts and processing collections. I am so excited to learn more about the history of the Panama Canal Zone and showcase interesting pieces of the past here on the blog!

Hi Susan and thanks for introducing yourself to everyone. I enjoy getting mail from the museum and to figure out where the pictures were on the Zone. My name is Diane (Sparks) French. I was born in Colon, Republic of Panama and my parents were Americans working for the Panama Canal Company. I was raised in Margarita then lived in eight towns staying in the Canal Zone for thirty-four years and never wanted to leave the Canal Zone. I married two Zonians and had five children. My husband was my childhood sweet-heart and later in life after a divorce I married him to live in the same town we were raised in Margarita to raise five children. We had to leave the Canal Zone in 78 when the treaties were signed. My husband was a Canal Zone Police Sergeant who was hired by US Customs in the United States. I’ll be happy to send you my stories and pictures from 40’s to 78. It was a wonderful life living in a Paradise the Canal Zone.

on The Panama Canal collection March 3rd 2019, I read your comments about living in Panama, I hope you dont mind
me contacting you ,I am writing from Ireland, I am wondering did you know anything about Mamie Kelly who ran the Kelley Ritz… do you know if she was Irish ? or anything about her , was she married etc.. I know she was a very controversial character, I think that I am related to her, but I can’t find if she was born in Boston or Irealand.. I also think she was long before your time, I know she died in New-Orleans in 1972
