Dang! I should know most – if not all – of these. Right off the bat; middle row, second from left is Dottie (Dorothy?) Yocum. Back row, third from right I am pretty sure is Mrs. ?? Will. Working on other faces.

input from Karen Coffey, Ann Best & Grace Shaduck via email:

“It was a Coco Solo Hospital get together at the PCC reunion in Tampa. I believe it was sometime in the 80’s. The picture includes all levels of personnel and a few spouses.

Back row: Mary Overstreet, Shirley Boswell (?), Karen Coffey, Beverly Shirley, Dolly Housley, Lou Farley, Anne Suescum, Beth Helton, Irene Will, Lora Herman, Ann Best

Middle row: Betty Snow, Dottie Yerxa (?), Dottie Ridge, Wilma Moore, (?), (?), (?)

Front row: Ray Will, Kenny Karpinski, Ron Moore, Gary Will, Tunney Housley

This certainly brought back great memories. We all were blessed to have lived and worked in Paradise!!
P.S. Grace-the men were: a spouse; a son of a former director of nursing; an OB doctor; a nurse; and another spouse. We were just one big happy family!!”

Coco Solo Hospital was the CZ hospital on the Atlantic Side. I believe it was originally built by the Navy and then transferred to CZ. It had a staff of family physicians and 1 or 2 specialists in Ob-Gyn, Pediatrics, General Surgery. Complicated cases were transferred to Gorgas and Gorgas physicians filled in for MD’s who were on vacation or otherwise absent. There were rather nice quarters for the temporarily transferred physicians on the hospital grounds.

  • Laurie McBride Hazelip

Carol you are right about it being built as a Naval Hospital. It was still Navy when I was born there in 52. My Dad was stationed at Gulick at the time, being transferred to Ft Amador. He made the move with my two brothers while Mom & I were in the hospital. Dad was very pleased with himself telling Mom that he’d unpacked everything before we got home. She said she came home to the biggest mess. Bless his heart he tried.

I worked in medical supply unit at Coco Solo Hospital in 1970 with Shirley Boswell and a nice guy named Archie that took the supplies throughout the hospital. Would like to see pictures.

Our first child was born at this hospital in 1970. I was stationed at Ft. Gulick. We lived in the Church of God parsonage near Margarita. Great memories. This child turned out great. Dr. Milo (sp?) delivered her. She was a breech birth. Great memories of my duty there.
