El Valle is a town a few hours outside Panama City off the Panamericana Highway. It hosts a popular Sunday market of local agricultural, horticultural, and artesian products. This is what the photo is referring to. Still going strong today.
My folks used to go there fairly regularly. I think it was a nice break from us kids! They always came home with the most wonderful handmade “things”. One time it was a wicker birdcage with two birds in it, another time it was huge wooden fork and spoon set (you know you had some too! seems every house had a set), then baskets and molas. They took us a couple times but I only remember one of the trips. I remember the smells and the colors. The people were so friendly.
