Fort Randolph

The back of this photograph reads “A walk, two miles long to a gun battery thru the swamp, on Ft. Randolph, C.Z.”.

What can you tell us about this walkway?

The area around Fort Randolph and Coco Solo was a very marshy area the marshes were heavy in mosquitos. This very likely provides a dry walking track to some point.

I lived on Fort Randolph from 1947 to 1949. The walkway in the picture led from Margarita Island (Ft. Randolph) through the marshy area and then across the water where the bay curled around behind the Fort. The walkway led to the cable office that was across the inlet. I use to fish from the “plank walk” with my father.
