Gatun locks

Only two days left until 100 years and the Panama Canal would not be what is today without Gatun!

We don’t have any extra information about this photograph, but we do know that it is at Gatun.

What can you tell us about this photograph?

What year might this photograph have been taken?

A northbound sailing ship with a uniformed crew on board. Country not identifiable. Seems to be leaving the middle level and moving to the lower level on the west side. Notice the locomotive (mule) cables are slack, probably to lessen damage to vessel.
