Happy Birthday President Franklin D. Roosevelt
We want to wish a happy 131st birthday to former President Franklin D. Roosevelt! In honor of the day we have pulled a photograph of one of his visits to Panama from our archives to share with you today.Could you help us identify which visit was this? We know he visited Panama in the following years: 1934, 1935, 1938, and 1940. Unfortunately the caption on the back does not state which one.
If you have any information about this F.D.R. image, please share with us in the comments section!

I believe this is the 1934 or 35 visit. That is USS Houston in the background… a crusier lost early in WWII. This is likely at Balboa & he is waving from the back seat of his touring car that carried him around on his visits, often with the then-President of Panama in tow. If i could see him in this foto we could date this more effectively. I have perhaps 25-30 different images of FDR visits in my collection, but not this particular one. The navy captain to his right (our left) is his naval aide who literally held him up at parades… there are many photos of him saluting with his left hand while the President stands & is supported by the captain’s right. It is sad to see. There are a lot of images of these Presidential visits to the Panama canal Zone and Republic. Bob Karrer
