I see what appear to be VCR tapes on the desk, so I’m guessing this is later than the ’70s, maybe even ’90s. Also, the Nikon camera appears to be rather recent (historically speaking!).

The man behind the desk is Cleve Soper. His office was in the Administration Building. Cannot say when this picture was taken or who the other man is. Hope this helps.

Cleve was a photographer with CZ. I remember that he would get quite frustrated when trying to get the annual photo of the Gorgas Hospital staff who tended to float in and out as beepers would sound, folks wouldn’t quit talking, and so hard to arrange the large group so everyone could be seen. We used the steps of the Gorgas Hospital Administration Building which is now headquarters for Panama Public Health—at least it was five years ago.

As others have commented, on the left is Cleve Soper and I would guess the photo of the Chief of the Graphics Branch was taken circa late 70s to early 80s. Cleve is a graduate of BHS Class of 1954 and during his high school years was a photographer for schools activities, so many of his works would have appeared in the Zonians and the Parrakeet…the BHS yearbooks and School paper of his era. I don’t knoe the other gentleman.

Let see if this will blow your mind. I think the guy on the right is Chris Robinson from General Hospital (a.k.a. Rick Webber #2). Check out the head shot on the desk (sharpee ready to autograph) and compare with a google search. Does anyone remember when he came down to the Canal Zone? It would’ve been the very late ’70’s/very early ’80’s. I think that is him standing on the right. It was a big deal when he came to town, of course, because General Hospital was all the rage at that time. Furthermore, the video tape is betamax, which should narrow down the time frame. I know Chris Robinson came to Diablo and paddled around in a cayuco as crews were preparing for the ocean-to-ocean race (i believe the specific cayuco crew included Chris Laakso and Johnny Niedzialek). Look a the calendar and it appears to be March, which would be just around race time.

I mean Kris not Chris Laakso,

Furthermore, Mr. Soper lived in Diablo across the street from the Niedzialek’s.

Found link to pictures of “Dr. Webber” on his Panama trip in Google Books (even appears to be in the same shirt). Definitely him on the right in the picture with Mr.Soper. Seems to be 1980 from the books excerpts but I’m not certain. The book was “Unusual Attitudes” by Edwin D. Armbruster.
