Saying Hello… and Farewell to a Team Member
Hello, all! My name is Sophia DeLeon, and for the last few months, I’ve had the privilege of being the Imaging Assistant for the Panama Canal Museum Collection. I am a recent UF graduate who has worked on digitization projects at both the UF Libraries and the Harn Museum of Art. My work with the PCMC has consisted of digitizing material from the collection in order to make it readily accessible outside of the archive.
I will be departing the UF Libraries this month to pursue a graduate degree in History at the University of Virginia, where I hope to put to good use all that I’ve learned working on the PCMC. Thank you all for letting me be part of this incredible project!

A note from the PCMC Curators: We’ll certainly miss Sophia! She started working with us in March as our first Imaging Assistant dedicated to digitizing materials in PCMC. In the four months Sophia worked with us, she was able to digitize thousands of pages from newspapers and other items and make them available in our digital collection. In upcoming months, we will spotlight some of our newly digitized titles here on our blog. Also, we are already in the process of hiring Sophia’s replacement so that the scanning work can continue without pause. Good luck with your graduate degree, Sophia!
