My 9+ years as a Canal Zone Police Officer were truly enjoyable, for the most part.

My boxing background in Panama, prior to becoming an officer, was helpful to me in many positive ways on the beat, and during my three years at the C.Z. Penitentiary, working in a correctional capacity.

Alas, the Panama Canal Treaty trashed any hope of retirement as a police officer.

I immigrated to Israel, where I became a combat vet in Lebanon during the the conflict there in 1982, some three months shy of my 40th birthday, and was lightly wounded above my knee by a grenade fragment.

I miss Panama and the Canal Zone…and my time as a CZ Police Officer, as I truly enjoyed the job, and the opportunity to be actually helpful from time-to-time.
