Earthrise
In celebration of the upcoming 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s moon landing, please enjoy this signed copy of Earthrise from the collection, donated by Bill Anders and Bob Gibson. The photograph is an image of Earth taken on December 24, 1968 while Apollo 8 was in lunar orbit. The photographer, astronaut Bill Anders, signed the copy in recognition of his grandfather, Thomas Adams, Roosevelt Medal holder #5415.
What memories do you have of the Apollo missions? How did people celebrate these achievements in the Canal Zone?

I hadn’t realized Anders was a descendant of a Roosevelt medal holder. Anders has an interesting background: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Anders

In july 1975, just after leaving Panama, I remember Apollo zoyuz joint soviet usa mission. I even got the patch and wore it on my bluejacket. Later in the late 1990’s I got to work with 3 russian engineers at Boeing, it sort of was full circle. Mans quest for space is a big leap for mankind.
